Huntingdon teenager raising money for hospice charity helped by local housebuilder

Housebuilder Bellway, currently building new homes in Cardiff is supporting a Hinchingbrooke School student who has raised more than £15,000 for charity in memory of his little brother.

Inspired by Captain Tom Moore, who walked 100 laps of his garden for the NHS, 13-year-old Stuie Delf dedicated the whole of May to raising money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) by running 5k each day.

Stuie’s younger brother Fraser, who had Coats plus syndrome, passed away earlier this year at the age of nine. He and his family were supported by EACH in the last months of his life.

Bellway Eastern Counties – which has its headquarters in Huntingdon and is building new homes in Cardiff – has given a £500 donation towards Stuie’s fundraising campaign. The money will support the charity which works to make a difference to the lives of families, children and young people living with a life-threatening illness across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.

After receiving Bellway’s donation, Stuie’s mum, Carla, 36, said: “We both couldn’t believe that someone had been so kind and had donated that amount of money. The money will help other families like ourselves who experienced a situation no parent should ever have to experience.

“The hospice staff are such amazing people – not only did they make sure Fraser was as comfortable as possible at the end of his life, they also allowed us to make lots of memories. We were there for seven weeks and I’m aware it costs the hospice £5,600 each day to give families across East Anglia this lifeline.

“Stuie like us is so proud of what he has achieved. Some days he found it hard due to his legs aching – but he would say, I’m not in as much pain as Fraser used to be.

“When he started out, he was hoping for £500, so he can’t believe that he has currently raised as much as he has. He keeps saying there are so many nice people in the world.”
