Barry Male Voice Choir have been working hard during the Covid 19 pandemic to keep the choir and community engaged, in contact and singing! Over recent months the choir has held a series of music tutorials, quiz nights and various lockdown singing projects.

Inspired by Dylan Thomas’s Rev Eli Jenkin’s prayer (Sunset Poem) from Undermilk Wood, the choir set about to record a short video. The filming was all done socially distanced at various locations in Barry, the Vale of Glamorgan. The audio was sung by 20 choristers individually at home into computers or mobile phones and stitched together remotely. The cello arrangement was written and performed remotely by Ben Tarlton especially for this recording.

Martyn Todd, Vice-Chairman Barry Male Voice Choir “It was important to us to keep in touch and remain engaged during these tough times. The recording gave us an opportunity to work creatively on a project that we hoped would be enjoyable for the choristers and musical team, whilst raising people’s spirits. We are delighted by the response it has received as we look forward to singing as a choir together, hopefully in the not too distant future.”

Dorothy Connell, Musical Director “I am very proud of the choir, the musical team and Ben. This was very different to other projects that we have undertaken in the past especially whilst being apart as a choir for the audio. The project was a lot of hard work and I would like to thank everyone that took part. The recording has already been viewed over 12000 on our Facebook page which is fantastic.”
