Local Athlete Gets 2021 Race Season Off With Virtual Top 10 Against World’s Best

Rhondda Cynon Taff resident international triathlete Adam Bowden has made a strong start to his 2021 season finishing his first e-sports race in 6th at the second round of 2021 Zwift Pro Tri Series, dominating the action over the first bike and run leg.

Racing on Zwift, the popular multiplayer online cycling and running programme, enables users to interact, train and compete in a virtual world. At the event, Adam competed against twenty of the world’s top male triathletes including 5 time Ironman winner Matt Hanson (USA), and Sub-8 Ironman athletes Antony Costes (FRA) and Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Henri Schoeman (RSA).

The race series is made up of events with 3 legs covering a bike-run-bike format. Races start with an individual time trial on an indoor the, followed by a run on treadmills and then a final criterium style points race on the bike. Points are awarded for finishing positions in each leg.

On the experience Adam says; “I really enjoyed the race and gives me a good platform to the go into the 2021 season. It was full on, non-stop form the start making me push as hard as I could on my Wattbike. It provided a much-needed moment of competition and a chance to test myself against the best in the world. I can’t wait for the next race where hopefully I can maintain my form and get on the podium.”

The ex-international athletics athlete turned to pro triathlon in xx and has already made his mark on the sport. Adam will next race on February 17th at 7pm in the UK with the final race held on the 24th. You can watch his next race live here: https://youtu.be/RuClZqWUBP8
