South Wales developer leads VE Day celebrations with poignant figures on display at sites

This Saturday (08 May) is the 76th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day — marking the end of World War Two after almost six years of conflict.

In celebration, Barratt and David Wilson Homes South Wales are displaying full-size ‘Tommy Figures’ in 7 of its show home gardens — a universal symbol of gratitude and commemoration to all those who have served and sacrificed for the freedom of others.

Launched just last year, Tommy Club is a supporters’ club designed to raise money to help Armed Forces veterans — with its iconic ‘Tommy Figure’ as a representation of British soldiers returning home from War.

Richard Lawson, Sales Director for Barratt and David Wilson Homes South Wales said: “The Armed Forces has touched the lives of many of our residents and staff — both past and present — so it’s an honour to pay tribute to our veterans and serving personnel in this unique way.

“Many of our developments have close links to the Armed Forces, including Wyedean Fields in Gloucestershire — which is just a stone’s throw from British Army base, Beachley Barracks. For us, providing homes to multiple Armed Forces families at sites such as this makes the Tommy Club cause feel even closer to home.”

Barratt Developments was invited by the RBLI (Royal British Legion Industries) Tommy Club to become its first corporate patron, making an acceptance donation of £100,000 before purchasing 300 ‘Tommy Figures’ for distribution across the UK.

Funds raised through sales of ‘Tommy Figures’ have helped provide homes, mental health support and even jobs throughout the pandemic, with each figure put together by RBLI’s Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company — a workforce made up entirely of veterans.

What’s more, UK Armed Forces personnel who are currently employed by the Army, Navy or RAF may be eligible for Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes’ Armed Forces Deposit Contribution scheme — offering a five per-cent deposit contribution of up to £15,000 on their purchase of a property.
