Rohaan Has A Big Summer Ahead Of Him
Welsh trainer David Evans will be excited by the summer Flat calendar in the UK as his sprinter Rohaan has proved he is good enough to tackle some of the major races in his division.
The three-year-old has made an excellent start to the campaign as he has prevailed on his last two outings, both of which have come in Group company.
The Wales-based horse first caused an upset at Ascot in the Pavilion Stakes. He scored by just over a length in that Group Three contest after going off at odds of 33-1.
Despite his win back in April, the bookmakers once again underestimated his chances when he lined up in the Group Two Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock. Under the hands of Shane Kelly, the pair finished the race strongly to finish a nose ahead of the unbeaten Dragon Symbol.
Wokingham Next Assignment For Talented Sprinter
Royal Ascot is set to be Rohaan’s next appearance as he has an entry in the Wokingham Stakes, a race that takes place over six furlongs. The son of Mayson would be one of the youngest horses in the field.
The last three-year-old to win the Wokingham was Bel Byou in 1987. It has been a race that has been dominated by older horses since then. Given his recent form, Rohaan is sure to be one of the runners which gets a positive mention in the horse racing predictions. The tool picks out horses who are underrated, particularly those are who are unexposed due to their age like Evans’ sprinter.
Despite winning the Commonwealth Cup Trial, Rohaan does not have an entry in the three-year-old race at the Royal meeting as he is a gelding. Victory in the Wokingham would hand his trainer one of the biggest successes of his career.
Remarkable Rise Up The Weights
At one point during his two-year-old campaign, Rohaan was rated as low as 55 by the official handicapper. He broke his maiden in a class six nursery at Newcastle, the first of three consecutive victories.
The sprinter moved to Evans’ yard in Wales at the back end of 2020. He had two disappointing outings on turf prior to that. The Welsh trainer opted to get his confidence up on the all-weather surface which has ensured he has gone into 2021 with some form under him.
Following his success at Haydock, Rohaan now has a mark of 116. He will need to carry a penalty in the Wokingham, while the Jersey Stakes over 7f, was also being considered for him.
Goodwood And York Also On The Cards
The path for the rest of the season will depend on how well the horse runs in the Wokingham. A victory in that race, or even a strong showing, may force connections to target Group races for the rest of the season.
There is a number of top-class sprint races at Glorious Goodwood, while York’s Ebor meeting will also be considered.
It remains to be seen where the horse will finish at the end of 2021. If he continues to improve, he could be one of the stories of the year in the sport.
