An initiative for high school aged girls in Wales, which aims to create a diverse and innovative STEM workforce, will be marking ‘International Women in Engineering Day’ next week.

Chwarae Teg will celebrate the occasion by holding its latest virtual ‘Not Just for Boys’ event with a panel of four inspiring women who work in engineering roles across the Transport sector in Wales. Together they will provide an insight into their roles, careers to date and offer advice to those interested in building a career in STEM.

The webinar, which will take place on Wednesday 23 June from 5pm-6pm, will feature the following female role models on the panel:

  • Tansy Appleby, Service Delivery Team Leader, Traveline Cymru/PTI Cymru
  • Jyoti Filby, Asset Engineer in Regional Asset Management, Network Rail
  • Elizabeth Maclaren, Infrastructure Assistant Project Manager, Transport for Wales
  • Gwen Thomas, Network Development and Partnerships Manager, Sustrans

Emma Tamplin, Chwarae Teg, said: “We always have great feedback on our Not Just for Boys webinars so I’m positive that those who sign up will get a lot out of it.

“Our panel work in a variety of engineering roles in transport, so there is something for everyone to be interested in and there will be an opportunity to put questions to the panel. At this webinar we want to inspire girls and young women to achieve very successful and hugely rewarding careers as engineers, scientists and as leaders in transport.”
