After a challenging year at home, it’s little wonder so many of us are embracing our newfound sense of freedom and planning a summer staycation this year.

With rolling hills, stunning coastlines, imposing castles and a proud history scorched by the fire of dragons, a trip to Wales is always an adventure.

Whether it’s returning to places we visited as a child or exploring new destinations recommended by friends, holidaying at home has never been more popular. One of the most exciting things about being on holiday is the opportunity to try something new and what better way to do that than discovering new tastes and flavours at local eateries. Here at Love Seafood, it’s our mission to get you excited about eating seafood, so we’ve travelled across the north of the country as well as making the short trip over to the Isle of Anglesey to bring you seven magnificent Welsh seafood restaurants.

Dylan’s Llandudno

If you are looking for a spectacular setting for dinner, Dylan’s, situated in the former Washington Hotel in Crag y Don, Llandudno, is it. The owners have lovingly restored this building to its former glory, saving much of the original grand design of local architect Arthur Hewitt. In doing so they have created an incredible dining experience – upstairs has views across the sea whilst the terrace offers intimate dining spaces on the ground floor.

The staff are passionate about local produce and the menu has plenty of local influences and seafood dishes served with a modern twist.

Address: Dylan’s Llandudno, The Washington, East Parade, Llandudno, LL30 1BE
Try the: Seabass tacos with seared sea bass fillet, iceberg lettuce, Pico de Gallo, guacamole, and Mojo Picon

What the reviews say on Tripadvisor:

“We can’t say enough good things about our visit – the staff were welcoming, very helpful and the food was amazing”

The Seahorse, Llandudno

Situated in the listed No 7 Church Walks building, The Seahorse offers two contrasting dining rooms. Downstairs is an informal, bistro-style dining area while upstairs has more of a “Victorian” feel with comfortable red leather chairs and many of the original 19th Century features still in place. Run by ‘Chef Proprietors’ Don and Gill Hadwin, The Seahorse’s motto is: “Fresh, local produce prepared with love, thought and care.”

Address: The Seahorse, 7 Church Walks, Llandudno, LL30 2HD

Try the: Menu is seasonal and depends on local produce but look out for the hake stuffed with crab and spinach, served on a thermidor sauce

What the reviews say on Tripadvisor: “A discreet but unmissable restaurant. A hidden gem in Llandudno”

Fish Tram Chips

Llandudno has a reputation for outstanding fish and chip shops and you should always trust the locals when it comes to suggesting a good chippy. Plenty will recommend Fish Tram Chips, a shop that has won numerous local awards as well as being named Traveller’s Choice for 2021 on Tripadvisor. You’ll find all your usual fish and chip shop favourites on the menu and you’re only a short walk from North Shore Beach if you fancy al fresco dining with a perfect view.

Address: Fish Tram Chips, 24 Old Road, Llandudno, LL30 2NB

Try the: Large haddock and chips

What the reviews say on Tripadvisor: “What a wonderful meal. Very fresh and very crispy batter for the fish. Really lovely, proper chip shop chips”

La Marina, Caernarfon

La Marina is a tapas and seafood restaurant, which specialises in the best quality, fresh fish and meat that North Wales has to offer – all served with a Mediterranean twist. The setting is beautiful, with a glass-roofed conservatory area bringing in the light and opening your view to the sky above. The food itself has been earning rave reviews in recent months with the small plates winning an army of fans amongst the many guests and visitors. So too has the warm welcome and excellent level of customer service.

Address: La Marina, Hen Gei Llechi, Y Felinheli LL56 4PE

Try the: Menu changes with the seasons, but the monkfish kebab with smoked pancetta and new potatoes is a delight

What the reviews say on Tripadvisor: “From the moment of walking in to leaving, we felt very welcomed. The food is the best I’ve had in a long time”

The Lobster Pot, Church Bay, Anglesey

The Lobster Pot has been a fixture in Church Bay since the 1940s, pulling in visitors from far and wide. The catch of the day is landed within view of the restaurant, as are the prized lobsters which are favourites on the menu. Recently taken over by new owners, the family-run Lobster Pot has had a makeover, one which respects the original maritime-feel of this quirky little gem. The restaurant specialises in local lobster, crab, mussels, oysters, and scallops and offers seasonal specials caught in the bay and beyond, including pollock, sea trout, cod, bass, mackerel, turbot, and plaice.

Address: The Lobster Pot Restaurant, Church Bay, Anglesey, Ll65 4EU

What the reviews say on Tripadvisor: “Everything I anticipated and more. The location was perfect. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the food was 100% perfect”

Twnti Seafood, Rhyd-y-Clafdy

A firm favourite on the Llyn Peninsula, near Abersoch and Pwllheli, since opening in 1991. Twnti has an outstanding reputation for both food and service, with the team passionate about exceptional, locally caught seafood. They boast some of the freshest lobsters in the UK, going from sea to table in a matter of hours. The business strives to work with local fishermen, buying from boats working off the coast at Nefyn and Morfa Nefyn and making overnight trips to the fish market at St Mawes in Cornwall. Set in a converted barn that’s nestled in the hills and only a few miles from Pwllheli and Abersoch, Twnti is rightly mentioned among Wales’ finest seafood restaurants.
