More than just a castle: Fonmon Castle’s new Relax at Fonmon offering helps you unwind

Fonmon Castle near Barry may be known for its dinosaur park, play areas and medieval village but it’s also a great place to relax and unwind. The castle’s new Relax at Fonmon offerings are perfect for older visitors or anyone seeking a chance to enjoy nature, art and old-fashioned tea and cakes.

Billed as “more than just a castle”, the magnificent house, parts of which date to Norman times, sits in picturesque, peaceful grounds. Visitors can explore the flower-filled walled garden, the pretty kitchen garden and track down the romantic hidden garden, which is known as Pen’s garden after a former owner.

The grounds also include a leafy Victorian ornamental garden with its own wishing well and ruined tea house, where you can follow a sculpture trail created by willow sculptor Chris Oakey. Afterwards you can return to the castle to take refreshments in the South Lawn Tea Room, or head to Antonio’s Food Court, located in a beautiful festival tent, for a bigger meal. Alternatively, bring a picnic blanket and enjoy your own spread on the tranquil South Lawn.
