It’s been a busy summer at Greenmeadow Community Farm, which has welcomed more than 17,000 visitors – and 40 rare breed piglets – since it reopened at the end of May.

The farm had been closed for 14 months due to the coronavirus pandemic before reopening the gates four months ago.

Since then, the café, shop and tractor rides have been reinstated, pedigree sheep sales have returned, and the farm’s new crop cycle technology has started bearing fruit.

A number of events have also taken place over the summer, including the recent Hope Rescue dog show which attracted more than 500 visitors and Llanyrafon Food and Craft markets which take place on the last Sunday of each month.

Senior Farm Manager Sally Partridge said: “It’s been fantastic to see visitors at the farm again and people have been very understanding about the restrictions we have in place to ensure everyone’s safety.

“We have steadily increased visitor capacity and we’re in the process of planning an exciting programme for the October half-term and run up to Christmas. Follow us on social media and keep an eye on our new website for more details.”

Councillor Fiona Cross, Torfaen’s Executive Member for the Environment, added: “Greenmeadow Community Farm is one of Torfaen’s jewels and it’s great to see visitors have been returning over the summer.

“The online booking system, which was introduced to help manage safe visitor numbers, has been very successful. Although visitors can now turn up on the day, numbers are still restricted so the best way to guarantee a fun day out is to book in advance.”
