Amazon Swansea Donates £1,000 To Kid’s Cancer Charity During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

The Amazon team at the fulfilment centre in Swansea has made a £1,000 donation to Kid’s Cancer Charity as part of the company’s global Amazon Goes Gold campaign during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Now in its fifth year, #AmazonGoesGold is a global initiative to highlight, support and amplify the incredible work done by many organisations to increase survival rates through life-saving treatments and research.

Each year, Amazon supports and collaborates with childhood cancer organisations across Europe who make it possible for every child affected by cancer to fight for their future. This year’s charity partners include the Starlight Foundation, Together for Short Lives, and the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group.

The Amazon Swansea team made a £1,000 donation to Kid’s Cancer Charity as part of the Amazon Goes Gold campaign. The charity plans to use the money to send two Local families to the beautiful welsh coast, to stay in one of the charities four mobile homes situated in prime positions in one of Haven’s parks. The families will be able to bond again, as having a child affected by cancer can change the dynamics of how the family can spend time together, so this will give precious time together, putting smiles on faces that might not have smiled for a while, doing normal things every family does on holiday, while knowing support is close to hand should they need. This has been made possible thanks to the Fantastic support of Amazon Goes Gold Swansea. Thank you.

The Kids Cancer Charity provides Respite Breaks, Play Therapy, Support Groups, Befriending and Bereavement Support to families all over the UK, and have been doing so for the past 32 years.

Amazon Goes Gold saw the team at Amazon in Swansea hold a month-long series of gold-themed events. The gold theme is in recognition of the international colour for childhood cancer.

One of the events this year was a 48-hour PJammin’ party. The team in Swansea joined colleagues across the UK by wearing pyjamas to work in honour of children who spend every day in their PJs during treatment.

Amazon Swansea Site Leader, Omer Kartal, said: “It’s fantastic to support Kid’s Cancer Charity as part of this year’s Amazon Goes Gold campaign and we hope the donation provides a boost to the staff and volunteers who do so much for the children in our community.”

One of the Amazon employees at the fulfilment centre who took part in Amazon Goes Gold is Nerris Jenkins. She added: “It’s great that Amazon continues to support childhood cancer organisations both here in Swansea and around the world. I loved taking part in the activities at our site and I’m glad we are able to make this donation to such a brilliant charity in our community.”
