CHRIST College Brecon has appointed a new Deputy Head Academic who will assume responsibility for the academic strategy of the school and leading and developing all departments.

Harry Mackridge is the current Head of Academic Innovation at Shrewsbury School, having previously held the position of Head of History at the school. Previous teaching posts include Merchant Taylors’ School, Northwood School and Kingswood School, Bath. Harry was educated at Stockport Grammar School and went on to achieve a First Class History degree from the University of Cambridge.

The new appointment has been made due to the current Deputy Head (Academic), David Bush, retiring at the end of the academic year.

Harry said: “I’m delighted by the opportunity to join the team at Christ College Brecon. During recent visits, I was so impressed by my interactions with both pupils and staff – Christ College is evidently a unique, forward-thinking school. The sense of genuine community was tangible and I’m really looking forward to help shape Christ College’s future academic development.”

Harry will begin his new role in September 2022.

Mr Gareth Pearson, Head of Christ College Brecon, said: “We welcome Harry to the Christ College team and are thrilled to have someone with his ability and experience join us. We are confident that he will build on the school’s reputation and look forward to him joining the school community.”

Set within the Brecon Beacons National Park, Christ College is an independent co-educational boarding and day school, with 370 pupils on roll between the ages of seven to 18.
