Shane Williams’ Cardiff Bay Call Out
Rugby legend Shane Williams is calling on the people of Wales to support The Hospital of Hope by signing up to run 10K for Velindre, who have been named as the Lead Charity for the second year running at the upcoming Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run, which returns for 2022 on Sunday 22 May.
In 2021 a team of nearly 200 fundraisers took part in the 10K race and raised nearly £45,000, helping to contribute towards the running of the centre, ground-breaking research, clinical trials and specialist nurses.
Ospreys and Wales winger Shane Williams said: “The Velindre Cancer Centre is a wonderful charity that has helped so many people, including family members and people I know. I’ve been fundraising for them for a number of years as I love to get involved and challenge myself.”
“I consider anyone that’s ever helped raise funds for Velindre a team-mate, so why not join the team this year and I’ll see you at the finish line? Velindre have 150 spaces available at the Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run this year available for just £10 to anyone pledging to fundraise £100.”
“This year, Velindre are encouraging people to not count the miles but make the miles count. I’m no expert when it comes to running long distances, but my advice for those looking to get into it is to just enjoy it. Take your time, get out there and enjoy going at your own pace.”
R4W Chief Executive Matt Newman, commented: “We are delighted that the Velindre Cancer Centre will be the Lead Charity at the Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run once again in 2022.”
“This fantastic charity provides specialist cancer services to 1.5 million in south east Wales and beyond, helping to ensure the best possible support is offered to patients, their families and carers dealing with cancer.”
“Knowing your run has helped others, gives a huge boost to the satisfaction you’ll feel during training and upon completion of the race, so if you’re taking part in the Cardiff Bay Run this year, we’d urge you to consider fundraising for our Lead Charity Partner!”
