Tom Jones painted in colours of Glamorgan Sausage, Welsh Cake, Gower and the Green Green Grass of Home at St David’s Cardiff
A unique portrait has been painted of Welsh icon Tom Jones to mark St David’s Day at St David’s Cardiff.
The stunning portrait was created using the Colours of Cymru eyeshadow palette, featuring Welsh-inspired colours such as Welsh Cake, Daffodil, Cwtch, Billy the Seal and Green Green Grass of Home.
Nathan Wyburn was behind the artwork, painting it live within the centre with the completed Tom Jones portrait now on display at St David’s Cardiff.
Colours of Cymru is an exclusive and limited edition make-up palette celebrating the best of Wales, designed in honour of St David’s Day.
More than 100 of the palettes will be given away to visitors to St David’s Cardiff between now and March 8.
Paying homage to local sayings and icons, the palette brings Wales to life in 35 vivid colours. For the first time, you can wear the eye-catching shade of Chippy Alley’s infamous late-night takeaway captured in the colour Chippy Lane Sglodion or be emblazoned with the lush greens of the valleys in the shades of Green Green Grass of Home, made famous by Welsh legend Tom Jones.
The palette is also home to the colours of the iconic Welsh Daffodil, Dragon and Billy the Seal as well as the landmarks of Snowdon, Castell Coch, the River Taff and the Gower.
Welsh food fans will find a trove of inspired colours such as Welsh Cake, Bara Brith, Laverbread and Glamorgan Sausage while there’s also a nod to Cardiff City with Bluebirds. And if you’ve ever wondered how the loved Welsh expressions of Cwtch, Cariad, Caru, and Lush would translate into colour, you now have a chance to find out.
In order to win a St David’s Day make up palette, guests need to visit the centre and sign up for the competition using its member-only free WiFi (St_Davids_Guest) by March 8.
James Waugh, Centre Director, at St David’s, said: “We’re really excited to share this proud, colourful celebration of Wales and can’t wait to see people’s reactions. We’re looking forward to seeing the creative uniquely Welsh looks our winners put together with the Colours of Cymru palette.”
