Rob Lloyd, a Welsh property developer and philanthropist, has been awarded a Points of Light Award by the Prime Minister for raising more than £85,000 for the national disability charity, Sense.

The Points of Light awards recognise people who have made an outstanding contribution to volunteering in their community, with winners announced every weekday. One of these inspirational volunteers is Rob Lloyd from North Wales, who has taken on extreme challenges every month over the last year to raise more than £85,000 for Sense. The charity supports people with complex disabilities, including deafblindness, to communicate and experience the world.

As part of his ‘Sense-less Challenge’, Rob has pushed himself to the limit to raise vital funds for Sense, with challenges including skydiving, SAS training, marathons and boxing matches. Rob recently decided to continue with his challenge for another year and is hoping to increase his fundraising to £100,000 within the next month.

Rob was moved to take on his ‘Sense-less Challenge’ after hearing the story of the Clucas family, who are supported by Sense. Mia and Charlie Clucas were both born blind and are unlikely to ever walk or speak. The news was devastating for their parents, Andrew and Nikki, but with the help of the Sense Family Centre in Peterborough, they found hope. Now Andrew and Nikki can communicate with their children and they can experience new activities together as a family.

Rob Lloyd said:
“This has come as a complete surprise to me and was totally unexpected. I am thrilled to bits in receiving this coveted award and I am privileged and pleased to be helping Sense raise awareness and much needed funds. Sense are an incredible charity and the people who work in the organisation do an amazing job, they all work so hard in making a difference.”

Richard Kramer, Sense Chief Executive, said:
“Sense is incredibly proud that Rob Lloyd is being recognised with a Points of Light award and we congratulate him on receiving this honour. We’ve been blown away by Rob’s support for Sense and we can’t thank him enough for his incredible efforts throughout his ‘Sense-less Challenge’.

“All the money Rob has raised will go towards supporting people with complex disabilities, and their families, to ensure that no-one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out or unable to fulfil their potential.”
