Domestic football in Wales doesn’t have the spotlight shining on it too often. Still, things could be moving in the right direction for a select few of the clubs operating in the country after they were offered grants to cover costs and finance community engagement and projects.

In total, a raft of nineteen football clubs have received offers of grants that are worth up to £5,000 each. The cash is coming via the Entain Foundation, a group that operates PartyCasino as one of its strongest brands, and the Pitching In Trident Leagues, which consist of The Isthmian, Northern Premier and Southern Leagues.

The main aim of the financing via the Trident Leagues, which the Trident Community Foundation represents, is just that. It’s there to help clubs across England and Wales strengthen relations within communities via outreach and projects, getting everyone involved where possible.

The projects are designed to cover a whole range of areas, and are open to everyone. They include programmes designed to get disadvantaged kids participating in football, fitness clubs within the community, walking football, first aid training and steward courses, mental health schemes and workshops, and youth development opportunities.

The decision to award grants of up to £5,000 to nineteen clubs in Wales comes following a total of twenty-seven other projects that received financial backing via the Trident Community Foundation during the 2021/22 season, which is the maiden campaign in which it has been operating.

The Entain Foundation, which we mentioned earlier, has been and remains in place to deliver cash boosts of £150,000 per year to help support the work of the Trident Community Foundation. They do this via their current sponsorship agreement with the Pitching In Trident Leagues programme, which is there to cover the operational costs of the leagues.

Entain’s commitment to the cause has been one of the main components of the project’s success. The gaming group has been involved from the incorporation of the Trident Community Foundation as a founding partner since December 2020, and also has significant involvement in the Foundation’s Pitching In investment programme that runs at grassroots level.

Speaking on the news of clubs in Wales receiving backing from the programme, Stuart Pearce, a Pitching In Ambassador, said: “These clubs play a vital role in the community, promoting health and wellbeing. The initiatives being supported by the Trident Community Fund show the true meaning of Pitching In and will further strengthen the bonds between the clubs and their communities.

“I would like to congratulate those who have been successful, and this is just the start. I look forward to seeing these initiatives come to life and more ideas come in.”

After a successful debut campaign for the programme, it’s likely the 2022/23 season will be even bigger where grants and support are concerned, with more clubs across England and Wales to receive financial backing.
