Wag This Way

The return of leading Cardiff charity City Hospice’s Wag this Way event was a big success, raising over £8000.

Sponsored by Wessex Garages, the five-kilometre dog walk had hundreds of owners and dogs alike taking part, walking through Bute Park on a sunny Sunday morning in mid-March, before visiting stalls offering treats and accessories and watching Dog Furiendly’s Dog Show.

With over 200 people registered before the event, and even more choosing to join in on the day, the event raised £8000 for City Hospice to continue their vital work in the local area. The charity provides care to people with terminal or life limiting illnesses, as well as essential counselling and support services for the families of their patients. The only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in the capital, City Hospice provides care and compassion to 550 patients at any one time.

Richard Mapley, New Car Sales Manager at Wessex Garages, said: “We have a long history of supporting City Hospice here at Wessex Garages, and the team love taking part in their fundraising events. It was great to get back out there and support the charity in person, especially after the pandemic, and we were so pleased that the event was such a great success.”

Adele Pember, Founder of Dog Furiendly, said: “The event was a great experience to be a part of; we loved seeing all the smiling faces and especially all the wagging tails! It was really important to us to support Wag This Way in order to support City Hospice and the vital work they do, providing essential care to those who need it the most. It was great to see the dog loving community united for a very important cause.”

Daisy Magill, Fundraising and Events Coordinator at City Hospice, said: “After our Wag this Way 2020 and 2021 events were cancelled due to the pandemic, we were hoping people would enjoy being back together for some fun fundraising in the sun, and it seems we were right! We received lots of positive feedback about the event and look forward to making it bigger and better next year.”
