Dogs Trust Cardiff  is looking for local dog lovers to consider opening up their homes and hearts by volunteering to temporarily foster a dog whilst they wait to be adopted.

The team is looking for more foster carers to take in a hound housemate so that they can continue to enjoy a home environment while they wait for their new owners. They’re looking for dog lovers over the age of 18, who live within an hour’s drive of the centre and who have a variety of home set ups, but are especially looking for quiet, adult-only and pet-free homes.

Fostering though the charity’s Home From Home scheme is completely free and Dogs Trust Cardiff will provided everything from food, toys, bedding and any medication the dog needs, as well as 24/7 support and advice.

Robyn Griffith, Home From Home Co-ordinator at Dogs Trust Cardiff, says:

“Home from Home fostering is an essential part of our rehoming process. While many dogs are happy to settle in our kennels and enjoy being taken care of by our amazing canine carers, some just aren’t able to adjust and miss their home comforts too much which can be distressing for them.  Whenever that is the case, we want to be able to place them in foster care as quickly as possible – but of course that relies on us having enough foster homes.

“Dogs that particularly benefit from being fostered are older dogs who are used to home life, poorly dogs and dogs recovering from surgery, or dogs who may never have lived in a home before who need to get used to the sounds and smells of life in a home.

“We already have several amazing foster families, and really appreciate everything they do; they play an integral part in finding their temporary four-legged lodger a new forever home – but we always need more so we can help more dogs.

“Fostering a dog is extremely rewarding so if you have a dog-shaped hole in your life, but can’t commit to having a permanent four-legged friend at the moment we’d love to hear from you.”
