Did you know that Denbighshire’s home library service can bring library books and resources to you?

If you are unable to get to the library because of ill health, disability, or caring responsibilities, the home library service can call to your home once a month to bring a wide array of resources, straight to you.

The service can bring the items to your home, sheltered accommodation, nursing home or day centre and you can use the online catalogue to request items 24 hours a day too. The service offers a wide selection that can be borrowed for a month at a time – including books and audiobooks in Welsh and English and can help you download free digital ebooks and newspapers if you wish.

Trefor, the Housebound Library Assistant has been delivering across the county for over 7 years. This service can be the only contact that some people get with the outside world, with Trefor becoming a friend to many of the people he drops off books to.

Even during the Pandemic, Trefor completed his duties and provided the people of Denbighshire with the resources and entertainment needed to get through such a dark time.

Trefor received letters during the Covid lockdown from many members of this service to thank him for his hard work and dedication during the period.

On working for the service, Trefor said:

“It can be very rewarding to help people continue to enjoy the pleasure of reading and hopefully provide a slight distraction from the challenges they may be experiencing in their lives.”

Councillor Emrys Wynne, Lead Member for the Welsh Language, Culture and Heritage said:

“This service is vital to ensure everyone in our County can enjoy the brilliant benefits of our Libraries. It is important that we offer the same quality service for anyone who may not be able to visit their local Library.”

“This is a long-standing service that people have grown extremely fond of and depend on.”
