BHF Cymru asks everyone to “elf-out” this Christmas
With the festive season in full-swing, BHF Cymru is encouraging people across Wales to donate the gift of time and volunteer in their local BHF shop.
Head of BHF Cymru, Rhodri Thomas said: “Our 30 Welsh shops need the public’s support more than ever before. Whether you can spare a few hours or days, every second you can gift to us helps fund lifesaving research.”
The charity’s Christmas volunteer drive, known as elfing, is an easy way for people to volunteer a few hours at their local BHF shop, finding out more about the research the charity funds and the variety of ways everyone can do their bit to help.
The BHF Cymru team are doing their bit, and Rhodri has already volunteered where he lives in Barry, and in his hometown of Carmarthen.
He added: “I had a brilliant time at both shops. It’s a fantastic way to meet BHF supporters, our amazing volunteers and colleagues, and find out why the charity is so close to people’s hearts in Wales.”
Policy and Public Affairs Coordinator, Hannah Peeler “elfed out” at her local furniture and electrical store on Crwys Road, Cardiff. She said: “I had a great afternoon getting to know the volunteers and staff members, who were very welcoming, collecting donations for our Christmas campaign and lots of furniture polishing – I think I’m a professional now! It was really interesting to see a different side of the organisation and all the hard work put into getting our stores looking amazing.”
With a variety of roles available, from merchandising on the shop floor, creating window displays, or in the warehouse, there are plenty of opportunities to give the gift that keeps on living this Christmas, but helping to fund lifesaving research.
With over a quarter of employed retail positions filled by those who have previously volunteered with the BHF, it’s a great way to enhance CVs too.
