Brave veterans, serving soldiers and their families are set to benefit from a generous donation of over £24,500 thanks to Swansea Bay Business Club.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, which supports serving and former soldiers and their immediate families when they are in need, received the funds after being chosen as the networking group’s President’s Chosen Charity for the past three years.

During that time its network of members, which include a range of leading businesses from across south and west Wales, raised over £11,000 at their popular Swansea Bay Business Club celebration events.

These events included Christmas Lunch, St David’s Day, Ffos Las Raceday and Beaujolais Day.

Generous members also took part in individual fundraising events over the last three years to provide an additional boost of over £11,000 to the charity.

They took on events including the daring Newport Transport Bridge Abseil, the extreme trekking adventure the Wadi Rum Trek and the virtual Welsh 3000 challenge.

Since 2020, members also raised an extra £2,000 through collections and donations at other networking and netwalking events that took place to comply with Covid restricions.

Michael Morgan, President of Swansea Bay Business Club, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have raised this amount for such an incredible charity that makes such a vital difference to their lives of our brave servicemen and women and their families.

“Supporting ABF The Soldiers’ Charity over the past three years we have seen first hand the incredible service this charity provides, and we are proud to be able to help them.

“I’d like to thank all our generous members who have donated to this wonderful cause, and taken part in a range of extreme challenge to help raise even more funds for veterans, soldiers and their families.

“We hope this donation helps the ABF The Soldiers’ Charity to continue providing life-changing support to serving and former soldiers and their families.”

The funds will be used by the charity to award grants to soldiers and army families in need across 48 countries, and also help to fund leading organisations that support servicemen and women.

Peter Davies at ABF The Soldiers’ Charity said he was extremely grateful for the donation from Swansea Bay Business Club.

He said: “We’d like to thank all the members of Swansea Bay Business Club, who have raised this fantastic amount for our charity.

“This money will make a vital difference to serving and former soldiers and their immediate families who may be facing hardship and may need support.

“Thanks to this incredible donation we can provide even more financial grants and support even more organisations to ensure our brave soldiers and their families can avoid hardship and live with independence and dignity.”
