St. Davids Shopping destination Celebrates Diversity by Partnering with Pride Cymru
St David’s Cardiff, Wales’ largest shopping, leisure and dining destination, has proudly announced its partnership with Pride Cymru, working towards supporting the LGBTQ+ community across Wales.
Pride Cymru’s intention is to increase understanding, awareness and respect for all, leading to a reduction in hate crime. The Welsh charity is close to the heart of staff and customers at St David’s and the team can’t wait to begin working with the organisation.
Steven Madeley, general manager for St David’s Cardiff said:
“St David’s promotes diversity and inclusivity in everything that we do, so we are incredibly delighted and proud to be partnering with Pride Cymru this year. It’s such a fantastic organisation and together we will be delivering projects that make a difference within the community, as well as continuing to make St David’s Cardiff welcoming to all.
“In 2018 we supported Pride Cymru during their Big Weekend, sponsoring the event and creating an installation in the centre to celebrate, and for 2019 we are looking forward to growing this partnership to further benefit the LGBTQ+ community.”
Gian Molinu, Chair of Pride Cymru said:
“It’s encouraging to see St David’s Cardiff put inclusion and equality at the heart of their organisation; supporting both LGBTQ+ employees and visitors. No one should be subjected to homophobic, transphobic, biphobic abuse, regardless of where they are. So, to be able to promote this message and to celebrate diversity on St David’s public platform, is an exciting opportunity which we look forward to starting. We have lots planned in partnership with St David’s over the coming year so watch this space.”
Cardiff hosts one of the biggest Pride events in the UK, with this year marking the 20th anniversary. Peaking at 50,000 attendees, it promotes an inclusive atmosphere at its festival uniting all types of communities. Pride Cymru’s dedication to supporting diversity was recognised in 2018 when they won Attitude is Everything’s Gold Award for outstanding work improving the accessibility for deaf and disabled attendees making it the only event in Wales to hold this achievement.
Throughout the year, Pride Cymru also undertakes outreach programmes, hosting workshops and exhibitions that support LGBTQ+ community and promote equality and diversity in all its forms. The partnership with St David’s Cardiff will support more events and awareness activities taking place, many of which will be hosted in the centre for shoppers from across Wales to attend and enjoy.
Pride Cymru festival will run from the 23rd to the 25th of August 2019.
