Wales Heritage Orchards Ltd Help Celebrate St Teilo’s Day Across Wales
Wales Heritage Orchard Ltd
Wales Heritage Orchards Ltd, a not-for-profit company born from Horticulture Wales, has been promoting Welsh Heritage Variety fruit trees across Wales, with many orchards having been planted recently. With over 100 members across Wales there are many trees being planted to celebrate St Teilo’s day, the patron saint of fruit trees, on 9 February.
Wales Heritage Orchard Ltd (WHO Ltd) Board members, Joey Hughes from Merched Y Berllan Orchard Daughters and Andrew Collings have been organising events to celebrate the day, with trees being planted at Ty Pawb in Wrexham. Carwyn Graves from Nation Cymru will be covering this celebration showcasing events across Wales. The National Botanic Garden of Wales will also be speaking to BBC Cymru, the garden is both a visitor attraction and a botanical research and conservation centre.

St Teilo was a monk born in Penally, South Wales and there are at least 25 schools and churches across Wales named after him. He is also the patron saint of Cardiff.
Horticulture Wales, working out of Wrexham Glyndwr University, has been full steam ahead, bringing growers, producers, and technology together. It recently organised an on-line event in January to promote the work of WHO Ltd and will be meeting again on 23rd March at Aberystwyth University’s IBERS centre, where there is a Welsh Heritage Orchard with over 150 trees. The event will be in collaboration with the National Botanic Garden of Wales, to talk about All Things Apple.
National Botanic Gardens of Wales
Several Welsh Heritage Orchards have already been created this year across Wales this year with trees from Ian Sturrock and Sons to schools, community orchards and wellness gardens. This includes the trees being donated to Wrexham’s Ty Pawb rooftop orchard in February and the new Wales heritage orchard planted back in January with the help of Incredible Edible Wrecsam and Mark Jones from Wrexham.
