Cardiff independent plumbing firm NJ Harkus has joined a sustainable initiative led by Trees for Cities which will see the firm plant a tree for every boiler installation they carry out in Cardiff.

Trees for Cities is the only UK Charity working both nationally and internationally to improve lives and the environment by planting trees more trees in Cities.  The Charity partners with local communities and businesses to plant trees, rejuvenate forgotten spaces and improve environments from the ground floor up, whilst also encouraging more local people to get involved, exciting and inspiring communities to get exciting about planting, growing, foraging and eating locally grown food.  It’s an inspiring project and one that the Cardiff plumbing firm are delighted to be involved with.

NJ Harkus explained the reason they chose to partner with the Trees for Cities project:

“Boilers can have a big impact on the environment – research reveals that the UK’s central heating boilers emit twice as much CO2 as all the UK’s gas-fired power stations, however sustainable projects like Trees for Cities can have a big impact on protecting the environment without compromising on keeping households warm.  For example, just 1 tree planted can offset 0.30 tonnes of CO2, or the equivalent of driving 732.90 miles.

“Added to that, newer boilers are far more energy efficient than old, outdated models as they only heat the water needed rather than keeping a big tank warm, so there are plenty of reasons to upgrade from older, less efficient systems – and the company’s partnership with the Trees for Cities Scheme gives an added incentive for people who may be thinking of upgrading to a more modern system.”

The firm are committed to making sustainable changes where they can and helping both the environment and people in their community.

A company spokesman continued:

“As a leading plumber in the Cardiff area, we have built up a solid reputation for high quality workmanship and great customer service, but it’s important to us that we don’t just think about the customers of today, but also future generations.  We want to help create a legacy of more pleasant, green spaces for people to enjoy as well as playing our part in the fight against climate change.

“Our involvement with the Trees for Cities Project has enabled us to do both, and means that our customers can enjoy the benefits of a new boiler whilst knowing they are helping improve our City and our environment for their children and grandchildren.  We are delighted to play our part in ensuring Cardiff’s future will be a burgeoning green city with parks, green spaces and trees – and with the number of boilers we are installing each year, we know that our contribution will make a big difference..”
