‘Pawlitical’ visitors for four-legged friends at Dogs Trust Cardiff
Staff from Dogs Trust Cardiff have welcomed several ‘pawlitical’ guests to the rehoming centre since the start of the year with visits from councillors and Members of the Senedd.
The rehoming centre lies within the ward of Cardiff Council Leader Councillor Huw Thomas, who visited with Councillor Dan De’Ath, whose responsibilities include animal welfare.
Sam Rowlands, MS for North Wales and Alun Davies, MS for Blaenau Gwent along with Councillor Jennifer Burke, Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Events, were also greeted by wagging tails when they headed to the centre to meet some of the dogs waiting to find forever homes.
All were given tours of the rehoming centre and chatted to staff about a variety of issues which impact dogs in Wales, including puppy smuggling, pet friendly housing, the charity’s Freedom Project which supports dog owners fleeing domestic abuse, pet friendly housing and the charity’s call for an end to Greyhound racing in Wales. The dog lovers also discussed plans for the first ever Senedd Dog of the Year event which will take place later this year, open to all Senedd members’ four-legged friends.
Following his visit, Councillor Huw Thomas, said:
“It was great to see everything that is being done by Dogs Trust to support dogs and their owners. We’re looking forward to continuing to work with the team and are proud to have such an amazing facility in Cardiff.”
Kim Davies, Deputy Manager at Dogs Trust Cardiff, said:
“It’s always a pleasure to show off the great work being done by the team here at Cardiff , supporting dogs and their owners. We know how important it is that politicians at all levels are aware of the work we do, not just at the centre but in trying to tackle the problems dogs and their owners face at their roots. Without their knowledge and support, it makes all the work we do more difficult, so to have their support is greatly appreciated.”
