Cardiff Corries team

North Cardiff estate agent Thomas H Wood has renewed its sponsorship deal with local football club Cardiff Corinthians A.F.C. into its 2023 season.

Affectionately known as Cardiff Corries, the Radyr-based club is currently top of the Premier Division of the South Wales Alliance Football League ahead of local rivals Canton Liberal FC and Llanrumney United FC. Thomas H Wood will sponsor the team’s new home kit as well as fund a banner at the Corries’ ground in Riverside for the coming year.

The established sales and letting agent has offices in Radyr as well as Whitchurch, and has supported the football club for the past two years with a pledge to continue the sponsorship deal until at least 2025.

The Corries have won 18 of their last 22 League games, and also reached the quarter finals of the FAW Amateur Trophy before being beaten by Llandrindod Wells FC.

Cardiff Corries Secretary, Dave Elliott, said: “Our aim is promotion in the League and we are in a really strong position. We always respect our opposition and never assume we will win, but we are playing very well.

“We are extremely grateful to Thomas H Wood and all of our sponsors whose support makes all the difference. Obviously the cost of electricity, food and general running costs is going up and we rely on our sponsors to survive. However, we don’t just want to survive, we want to prosper, and this goes for all parties in our club. We have developed a ‘One Club’ ethos where the main team, the Juniors and the vets are all united and we are all working together to develop the Corries team. Our Juniors currently has a Bronze Award and we are looking to develop the squad and encourage more girls to play and hopeful progress to a Silver Award next year.

“Thank you again to our sponsors and our volunteers, and good luck to our players in their promotion bid!”

Paul Wood, Thomas H Wood Director, said: “We are Cardiff born and bred. Our father established the company in 1970 and we are committed to championing local groups and clubs within our community. We’ve been proud sponsors of the Corries for a couple of years now and have been cheering them on from the sidelines. We’re looking forward to continuing our partnership into the 2023/24 season and hopefully seeing the team maintain their impressive performance.”

The South Wales Alliance Football League will undergo a restructure next season altering its current set up of three divisions of sixteen clubs, to four divisions of twelve with a Premier Division, Division One and two regionalised Division Twos.
