Mum raises money for local charity supporting disabled children and their families
A local mother is taking action to support a charity that has been instrumental in helping her son who is Autistic and ADHD. By sharing her own experience, she hopes to raise awareness and funds for the organisation so that they can continue to provide essential services to disabled children and their families.
The charity in question, Y Bont is a specialist and unique child and family centre based in Bridgend, providing a range of day services for children with disabilities. Y Bont offer help and advice to parents/carers and provide respite services. Y Bont opened its doors in 1997 after a group of families identified the need for an accessible and safe provision for disabled children in the area.
Mum Chloe Rees, 26, from Porthcawl, has been involved with the charity for the last year, and has seen first-hand the impact that their services can have on families.
“As many neurodivergent people and their parents know, the world can be a very isolating place when it hasn’t been designed for people like us…people don’t realise how hard things like going out to the park can be, or how difficult school holidays are for a neurodivergent child” says Chloe. “We are in such a better place now, and largely down to the support that Y Bont has given us. I want to give back and help them continue to provide these vital services to other families”.
To raise money for the charity, Chloe is participating in a “50k for May” challenge, where she will be walking, cycling, running and swimming 50k during the month of May. All proceeds will go directly to Y Bont.
“I hope that this challenge will raise awareness of the amazing work that Y Bont does, and encourage others to support them too,” says Chloe. “Every donation, no matter how small, can make a difference to the lives of families like ours.”
