Coleg Gwent is thrilled to announce the speaker for its 2023 Learner Awards Ceremony. The event centred around the theme of well-being and recognising outstanding learner accomplishments, will take place on Thursday 22 June at The ICC Wales.
Renowned as a respected figure amongst healthcare professionals in the UK from his years as an A&E doctor, Dr Alex George has been selected to address the college’s learners, faculty, staff, and guests at the annual event.
Alex is on a mission to improve mental health support for young people and has become prolific throughout the UK in his campaigning for Early Support Hubs. In February 2021, Alex was appointed by the former Prime Minister as Youth Mental Health Ambassador to the government.
Alex is also the author of three Sunday Times Best-selling books, and, A Better Day won Book of the Year 2023 at the British Book Awards for Children’s Non-Fiction.
With his wealth of knowledge and experience, Alex will inspire learners and offer valuable insights into the importance of prioritising mental and physical health and well-being.
The Learner Awards Ceremony serves as a platform to celebrate the exceptional achievements of Coleg Gwent’s learners. The event highlights the dedication and hard work these remarkable individuals have demonstrated in their studies, extracurricular activities, and communities.
To receive an award, a learner may have overcome adversity, displayed a positive attitude or exceptional talent, or turned a failure into a success.
Jess Pike, Employer Engagement Advisor at Coleg Gwent, said: “It’s our pleasure to have Alex George speak at this year’s Learner Awards Ceremony. His expertise in promoting well-being to a young audience aligns perfectly with our college’s vision to empower our learners to prioritise their mental health. We believe that Alex George will leave a lasting impact on our learners and motivate them to continue to excel in their achievements both in and outside of college.”
