Trinity Fields School set to benefit from £10million investment

Trinity Fields Special School and Resource Base is set to benefit from a £10 million investment as part of the Welsh Government 21st Century Schools and Education Programme Band B.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet agreed the proposal for Trinity Fields School in Ystrad Mynach last week, which is subject to business case approval by Welsh Government and full consultation.

The council has already invested £1.3 million during the past 6 years into capital maintenance projects at the school. In addition the Council is currently undertaking improvement works at the school using approximately £900,000 underspend in the 21st Century Schools and Education Programme Band A.

Cllr Philippa Marsden, Cabinet Member for Education and Achievement said:

“The Council has already significantly invested in the school both from an expansion and improvement perspective. However, it is apparent that the demand for the school from the projected pupil numbers, the more complex and changing needs of the pupils together with the requirements of the ALN Reform Bill has led to the urgency to expand the provision further at this school.”

“Accessibility is at the heart of the new facilities proposed for Trinity Fields School. The work, once completed, will make the school more accessible for everyone, and will provide every pupil with the opportunity to learn in a modern environment which is truly befitting of the 21st Century.”

The 21st Century Schools Programme is a collaboration between Welsh Government and local councils. It is a significant, long-term and strategic capital investment programme with the aim of creating a generation of 21st Century Schools in Wales.
