Carmarthen housing association joins national walking challenge to benefit Black and Ethnic Minority communities

Dedicated staff from Stori housing association are preparing to take part in a national walking challenge raising “invaluable” funds to support Black and Ethnic Minority communities facing domestic abuse.

Carmarthen-based Stori will be taking on its walk on August 18th, as part of the national Hiking for Housing challenge.

The challenge will see 12 Welsh housing associations take on sponsored walks, runs or cycles in a bid to support numerous prevention charities.

Stori will be taking on a 5km walk of Pembrey Country Park to support people with no recourse to public funds who are supported by BAWSO. The charity helps people from Black and Ethnic Minority backgrounds who are affected by domestic abuse.

Alongside Stori, other housing associations taking part in the national challenge are Melin Homes, Cardiff Community Housing Association, Clwyd Alyn, Newydd, Monmouthshire Housing Association, Tai Calon, Cartrefi Conwy, Caredig, Bron Afon, RHA Wales, and Valleys to Coast.

Each housing association has been supported by the sector’s trade body Community Housing Cymru, which has coordinated the walks and brought in experts from team building specialist Call of the Wild and Welsh legal firm Hugh James to advise the participants on their events. Staff from the not-for-profit organisation, which oversees Wales’s 34 housing associations, will also be joining different walks across the country.
