The Halo Sport Foundation – supporting tomorrow’s sport stars
Athletes representing Bridgend County Borough in regional and national sporting competitions attended Halo’s Sport Foundation Awards last Friday. The recipients were chosen by the Foundation for their commitment to their training and success in competition so far. The Foundation – which has Olympic Triathlete Helen Jenkins as its Ambassador – was launched because it knows 80% of aspiring athletes have limited funding to support their ambitions and the crucial training and competition that will help them progress to national and international level.
The Foundation aims to give ambitious sportspeople in the County, crucial support for their future. This year the Foundation is providing essential funding and free training opportunities to 143 young ambitious sportsmen, sportswomen and children of ages ranging from 11-17, representing 32 different sports, everything from athletics, swimming, surf lifesaving, cycling, cricket, para-table tennis to football and judo. It is all about investing in local talent; supporting local athletes and inspiring local communities.
The Foundation also launched the Community Impact Awards this year to recognise 3 recipients who were selected for the time and effort they give back to their local club and community in terms of volunteering, coaching and mentoring.
