Wrexham football stadium known as the Racecourse Ground in the city of Wrexham, North Wales, UK

With more drama than a box office hit, Wrexham’s Hollywood dream continues to play out at the Racecourse under the gaze of a fascinated world. Triumph, despair, and more twists and turns than the greatest thriller, Wrexham fans have experienced it all since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took charge of the club in 2020, but things are still looking up as the team holds its own in the Football League.

Another Promotion Charge

After enduring 15 long seasons in non-league football, Wrexham’s beleaguered supporters finally celebrated the club’s return to League Football last season after a record-breaking campaign. Now, just six months after promotion, The Town are high in the League Two betting odds after an impressive start to the season.

Not only are Wrexham pushing for a playoff place, but their impressive performances under manager, Phil Parkinson, are turning the club into big challengers for an automatic promotion place. Parkinson, with the backing of his famous owners, added more quality and experience to his squad over the summer, and the team are beginning to reap the rewards.

Veterans, James McClean and Steven Fletcher, as well as the talented pair of George Evans and Will Boyle, have made a huge difference since arriving at the Racecourse, and with ‘Super’ Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer still firing on all cylinders, the 2023/24 season promises to be another exhilarating ride for fans.

Worldwide Fame

For so long it was the downtrodden fans of Wrexham that held their club in their hearts, but now, thanks to Reynolds, McElhenney, and their ‘Welcome To Wrexham’ documentary, The Town are now followed by football fans from all across the globe.

The area is being visited by people from all around the world, with attendances now at an all-time high. The Welsh club are slowly becoming everyone’s second team, with many fans of more famous clubs checking in to see how the team is fairing in League Two.

It is so far, so good for this season, and once again fans both new and old can be thankful for the goalscoring exploits of one man in particular.

‘Super’ Paul Mullin

Paul Mullin has become a folk hero at Wrexham since joining the club from Cambridge in 2021, and given his incredible goals tally, it is easy to see why. The Merseyside-born striker hit 38 goals in Wrexham’s last season and has hit the ground running in League Two as he fires his team towards the summit of the table.

It is quite a turnaround for the now 29-year-old. Having spent most of his career in the lower leagues, Mullin must have thought that his chances of becoming a household name were long gone. That is the case no longer, however, as with Wrexham’s newfound fame, he has become one of the most recognised names and faces in English football.

Having suffered a serious injury in pre-season, there was a worry that the Liverpudlian might not return at the same level, but any doubts have been put firmly to bed by the man they call ‘Super’ Paul Mullin. If he can score the goals to give Wrexham a second promotion in a row, fans will have to come up with an even greater name for their hero.
