Two Chester businesses are stepping up to support one of the city’s most popular events.

Chester Business Club’s annual charity walk, which is free to take part in, helps provide a vital boost to local good causes.

And this year it will be co-sponsored by city-based media firm Magnify PR and Chester Racecourse.

The event, which starts from the Racecourse, will take place on September 15 – with hundreds expected to attend.

Many will be raising money on the day for charities.

Nick Owens, the founder of Magnify PR, and a member of the Chester Business Club’s Executive Committee, said: “We’re delighted to be co-sponsoring this event with the race-course which, again, has kindly agreed to play host to the charity walk. What I love most about the event is how it brings people together from across the city and beyond to help raise money for some amazing organisations. I hope to see lots of people there on the day – as well as dogs who are welcome too!”

Kate Dawson, Commercial Director at Chester Racecourse, said: “The Chester Business Club’s annual charity walk is a fantastic community event that we’re always proud to support. It’s a rewarding occasion that sees so many local businesses and people come together to raise awareness and funds for incredible charitable groups and causes. We look forward to seeing everybody at the racecourse for the start of this year’s walk and wish all those participating the best of luck.”

Clare Hayward, the current High Sheriff of Chester, who will start the event, said: “I am delighted to support the Chester Business Club’s walk. I love the ongoing commitment to local causes by the local business community. The Chester Business Club cares about the people, the businesses and the area. It combines community, charity, enables connections and raises cash for good causes. I look forward to seeing everyone at Chester Racecourse.”

Peter Broxton, the Chair of the Charity Walk, said: “For those who haven’t taken part before it’s important to point out that far from being a competitive race, the walk is a gentle Sunday morning stroll. The distance is only six miles and a bit, and the club’s legendary refreshment stops will be en route – Mars Bars, orange juice and bacon butties or a vegetarian option with coffee. We finish with a refreshing gin and tonic, or soft drinks.”

Mr Broxton said all walkers would be provided with sponsorship forms to their specific charity, with the all-important GiftAid facility. There will be face-painters, and a prize for the best and worst behaved dog.

Registration starts from 10.15am and the walk begins at 11am.
