Leading partnerships developer Lovell has supported Libanus Primary School in Blackwood, by providing pupils aged five to seven with a range of educational workshops.

Lovell, which is building new homes nearby at housing provider Pobl’s Chartist Garden Village development, has visited Libanus Primary School on four occasions to teach the children about a variety of topics, from health and safety, to teamwork and problem solving.

Meriel Gough, Community Development Coordinator at Lovell and Andrew Williams, Labourer at Chartist Garden Village, hosted a safety awareness session which focused on the importance of safety measures, especially on construction sites.

The other three workshops were held in partnership with 2B Enterprising, creators of The Bumbles of Honeywood programme, which facilitates relationships between businesses and schools, and delivers interactive enterprise sessions to raise aspirations and inspire the next generation.

The first session centered on networking skills and taught pupils about the different career paths on offer, including those in the construction industry. The second focused on the importance of friendship, teamwork and leadership, and the third on problem solving.

All three workshops revolved around a series of educational books, titled ‘The Bumbles of Honeywood’, ‘Hornet Scramble’ and ‘Bertie’s Big Adventure’.

Nicola Williams, Headteacher at Libanus Primary School, said: “These educational workshops have been hugely beneficial and our pupils have loved learning all about housebuilding and teamwork. It was wonderful to see the children so enthusiastic and engaged, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to Lovell and 2B Enterprising for delivering these sessions.”

Gemma Clissett, regional partnerships director at Lovell, said: “Hosting these four special workshops for the children of Libanus Primary School has been a real pleasure, and something we’ve thoroughly enjoyed at Lovell. We are very proud to have helped provide these pupils with such important life skills and hope they now all feel excited about their futures.

“Our partnerships with both Libanus Primary School and 2B Enterprising have been invaluable, and we’re looking forward to continuing to support the Caerphilly community.”

Dafydd Hellard, Community Development Facilitator at Pobl, said: “I’m really excited to see how Lovell’s workshops are making a difference at Libanus Primary School. It’s amazing to watch the kids dive into topics like safety, teamwork, and solving problems with such enthusiasm. Teaming up with 2B Enterprising just adds more depth to these experiences, showing how committed we are to giving these young minds the tools they need for a bright future in our community.”

Jayne Brewer, Chief Executive Officer at 2B Enterprising, said: “To have partners such as Lovell promoting the development of key skills in primary schools and introducing various career opportunities at such an early age is crucial to ensure they’re well prepared for their future. The Bumbles of Honeywood Programme provides a bank of resources to support teachers with ongoing delivery of enterprise and employability skills in the classroom and also ensures that businesses are able to deliver social value and contribute to social mobility in a very practical, engaging way.”

Chartist Garden Village is a design and build scheme being delivered by Lovell for Pobl Group and Caerphilly County Borough Council, on the former council office site in Pontllanfraith. The development will consist of 123 open market homes and affordable homes for rent and shared ownership.
