First date fashion: Welsh daters prioritise comfort and confidence

In TK Maxx’s recent survey, focusing on first date fashion, Welsh daters were found to be one of the most easygoing  when it came to first date fashion choices. It was the least likely region to think that what a date wears would impact wanting to see them again (40%), with this  being 35% in Cardiff, also making it the least likely city to say this.

The survey, which gathered insights from over 2,000 individuals across the UK, explores the significant role of fashion in first impressions and dating culture.

Wales insights:

• 67% of those in Wales agree it is important what they wear on a first date. When asked why, the region was the most likely to say ‘to match the occasion or venue of the date’ (34%), 36% of those in Cardiff said this. The region was also one of the top regions to say ‘to feel confident and comfortable’ (59%) and ‘to feel attractive’ (52%)
• When asked what factors influence your choice of clothing the most, Wales was the most likely to say ‘to feel comfortable and clothes fitting well’ (53%), and 56% of Cardiff said the same. It was also the region most likely to say ‘personal confidence boosters’ (40%), 42% of those in Cardiff said this. And Cardiff was the highest city to say ‘cost or affordability’ (30%). However, Wales was the region least likely to say ‘brand or designer of clothing pieces’ (8%).
• 53% of the region agree that they put more effort into the first date than subsequent dates, Cardiff (58%) was one of the most likely cities to say this.
• 64% of those in the region said it was important what their first date was wearing, 65% of those in Cardiff said the same. Wales was the region least likely to say ‘it helps in determining physical attraction’ (23%), when asked why is it important.
• Wales was also the least likely region to say they typically purchase a new outfit for a first date (42%) and Cardiff was the least likely city (39%). Those that do purchase new outfits, spend an average of £71 on first date outfits.

The survey shows that those in Wales want to put their best foot forward to look and feel their best on a first date, but when it comes to what their date is wearing they are less potentially less judgmental than those in other regions.
