Ruthin Gaol is set to open its doors for a Spooktacular October half term from 26th October to 2nd November, when the historic Gaol will be opening its doors as part of the Welsh Museums Week and Kids in Museums initiative.

A proud signatory of the Kids in Museums manifesto, the team at Ruthin Gaol is busy preparing a whole host of spooky crafts and activities that will be perfect for children, young people and families.

Ruthin Gaol will be offering visitors a free Welsh Museums Festival booklet and a range of Halloween-themed activities, trails, and crafts, all included in regular admission prices. The Gaol will be open from 10.30am to 4.00pm daily, with last entry at 3.00pm.

Philippa Jones, Ruthin Gaol Operations & Development Manager said:

“Signing up to the Kids in Museums manifesto was an important step for us here at Ruthin Gaol as we’re committed to creating an engaging and welcoming environment for families and young people. We want every visitor, regardless of age, to be able to experience the Gaol’s history and our Halloween activities will be the perfect opportunity to do just that while having some spooky fun at the same time!”

Funded by the Welsh Government and organised by the Federation of Museums and Art Galleries of Wales, The Welsh Museums Festival places a spotlight on history and Halloween across Wales with a wide range of ghost hunts, workshops, and more.

Rachael Rogers, of the Federation of Museums and Art Galleries of Wales, who organises the Festival, said:

“This week shows off the amazing work undertaken by museums across Wales throughout the year. It’s an opportunity to learn more about the history of Wales, but also to take part in a fun Halloween event. We’re thrilled to see so many of them taking part again in 2024 and we look forward to seeing what everyone gets up to over half-term.”

Outside of the forthcoming half term, Ruthin Gaol is currently closed to daily visits from members of the public but the historic landmark remains open to group visits, paranormal investigations and building hire for events and filming.
