MyBnk charity’s top tips for safer online money choices this Global Money Week

For 2025, Global Money Week runs from 17-23 March, with the theme ‘Think Before You Follow, Wise Money Tomorrow.’

In support of this important message, MyBnk is highlighting the importance of thinking critically about financial products and advice – especially online.

“The digital world is packed with financial information, from social media posts to the rise of ‘finfluencers’ (financial influencers), but how do you know what you can trust online?” says Leon Ward, CEO, MyBnk. “Over 40 million people are affected by digital scams each year in the UK* via email, text, phone call, or social media. That’s why this week, we want to empower young people and adults to navigate financial advice safely, make smarter choices, and manage their money with confidence.”

Throughout Global Money Week, MyBnk will share crucial tips and guidance via social media channels covering key topics such as:

The public are invited get involved and share their own safety tips, sharpen skills and awareness, and discover what type of #digitalfinancedetective they are, using the hashtag #ThinkBeforeYouFollow to join the challenge and tagging @MyBnk in posts.

As part of MyBnk’s #GlobalMoneyWeek activities, the financial education charity will be chairing a panel titled “Think Before You Follow – Decoding Financial Advice in the Digital Age” as part of celebrations marking the first year of MyBnk’s educational programmes in Wales.

The full celebration is from 12.30pm-3.30pm on Tuesday 18 March at Cardiff and Vale College in Cardiff.

The panel takes place from 2pm-2.45pm.
