THE partnership between a law firm and a beloved North Wales hospice has been further strengthened following a £2.5m building redevelopment.

St Kentigern Hospice in St Asaph opened the doors to its new-look facility after months of improvement works by Bodelwyddan-based Wynne Construction.

Among the guests at the unveiling was Shian Hughes from Edward Hughes Solicitors in Rhyl, who has been helping patients and families with advice and guidance on Wills and Probate matters.

With new facilities including a landscaped open space, café, conference room, relaxation and education areas and an increased bed provision from eight to 12, Shian believes they will be in an even better position to offer support to those who need it most.

“The new buildings are incredible and will enable St Kentigern Hospice to care for even more people in the future,” she said.

“As well as being a warm and welcoming space where we can discuss anything of concern to patients and their families around Wills and Probate issues, it’s a community hub where the public can come and offer their support by visiting the new café or using the meeting areas.

“We are proud to be in partnership with the hospice and wish them well in their new home – the transformation is amazing.”

Shian, from Denbigh, added: “Writing a Will is a sensitive subject, which is why the personal touch is so important, and making sure patients and their families are prepared, especially when they are at their most vulnerable.

“The most important and rewarding part of being a solicitor is trying to help people, especially at what can be a difficult time, so to make that as simple and painless as possible in advance is vital.”

Edward Hughes Solicitors previously attended the temporary St Kentigern Hospice day care unit at Bowen Court in St Asaph, while the renovations were taking place.

Day Therapy Lead Debbie Gilman works with a team of nurses, therapists and counsellors and hundreds of volunteers at the centre and says having Shian on hand with her expertise has been a comfort to patients and their loved ones.

“We are all thrilled with how the hospice looks and functions, it is fantastic and will enable us to deliver even better care,” said Debbie.

“I’m delighted Shian has moved with us to this impressive, renovated building as she has gained the trust of the patients, their families and all of the staff by reassuring them on these important matters.

“Concerns over Wills is quite common so being able to turn to Shian for help is vital for us. She is key part of the team and the partnership with Edward Hughes Solicitors has been of great benefit to everyone here.”
