AB Glass to work on new £39m landmark Swansea building
AB Glass, the Swansea-based leading aluminium manufacturing and installation company, has secured a £1.5m contract to work on a new, landmark, building being built in Swansea.
The company is working alongside global construction specialist ISG to deliver a £39m student high-rise accommodation block at Mariner Street, Swansea. Reaching 17 stories and 58 metres tall, the building will house 780 students and be the second tallest in the city.
AB Glass specialises in the manufacture and installation of facades, curtain walling, windows, doors and structural glass assemblies for both the domestic and commercial markets.
The company works across the UK often on very large commercial projects. It also has an access control division, AB Access, which produces a range of leading access control products.
AB Glass will fabricate and install Kawneer AA720e windows along with AA720 and AA190 swing doors in the new building. Due to various acoustic requirements on the build, it is also supplying acoustic glass and trickle vents, which help protect the end users from external noise.
The project will be the third scheme ISG has delivered for Fusion Student. The new development will open in time for the start of the 2021 academic year and it represents a key part of Swansea’s expansive regeneration plans.
Alan Brayley, managing director at AB Glass, said:
“We are very pleased to deliver our manufacturing and installation services to the Fusion Student project. We are aware of the increase in demand for student accommodation in Swansea for its two main universities and we think the new Fusion Student build will help mitigate this demand.”
