Following the exclusive launch of its Single Malt Inaugural Release in May, and a massively popular ‘distillery exclusive‘ in August, Aber Falls marks its next major milestone with its 2021 bottling available across the UK and overseas.

Whisky connoisseurs will be able to get their hands on this entirely Welsh whisky in September 2021. Made using 100% Welsh malted barley, Aber Falls also curates its whiskies using rock-filtered water taken from the Aber Falls Waterfall and is made by a team of local people. It is stored and matured in a traditional dunnage warehouse along the Menai Straits, before being bottled on site at the distillery.

This exceptional whisky was distilled in a mix of copper pot and stainless-steel stills and includes a mix of Oloroso sherry casks, PX sherry casks, Bourbon casks and Virgin Oak casks for a totally unique flavour. Deep amber gold in colour, this Single Malt gives an aroma of sweet fruits with a hint of clove and delivers a rich and full-bodied palate, with sweet sherry notes, dark chocolate and espresso. It stimulates a long and lingering finish of dried fruit and subtle spice.

Dr Kirstie McCallum, Master Blender at Aber Falls, said:

“The perfect whisky is made up of exceptional ingredients, ideal conditions and well considered casks made of top-quality wood. In particular, the two sherry casks used for this Single Malt have provided a very enjoyable flavour that we’re incredibly proud of.”

The 2021 release of the Single Malt Welsh Whisky is bottled at 46% ABV, and the 70cl expression has an RRP of £26.  Fans of the distillery will be delighted to hear that, unlike the 350 bottle ‘distillery exclusive’ last month, which almost broke the internet, there is plenty of stock available for this full release and it is due to be stocked in Tesco stores across Wales.

Tesco’s local buyer for Wales Nathan Edwards (above) said:

“I am delighted that we are the first supermarket to be stocking Aber Falls’ whisky, which reflects the strong relationship we have with them as a supplier.

“There has been a lot of interest in the product and I am expecting it to be popular with Tesco customers.”

James Wright, Managing Director at Aber Falls Whisky Distillery, said:

“We are thrilled to release Aber Falls Single Malt Welsh Whisky to Tesco shoppers., following the successful inaugural release earlier in the year, which saw 2,000 bottles sell out in just 40 minutes, and our distillery-only exclusive last month which also sold out on the day of release!

“We’re a distillery that proudly produces 100% Welsh whisky, capturing the Welsh craft and heritage in every bottle.

“The Aber Falls Single Malt Welsh Whisky is made using 100% Welsh malted barley and is curated with rock-filtered water taken from the Aber Falls Waterfall. It is made by a team of local people and is stored and matured in a traditional dunnage warehouse along the Menai Straits, before being bottled on site at the Aber Falls distillery. So, the Aber Falls Single Malt Welsh Whisky really does represent the very best of Welsh produce.

“As a result, our products are extremely sustainable, enabling us to benefit Wales at every stage of production, including returning any waste ingredients to local farms for use as fertiliser or cattle feed.

James Wright continued:

“This is also a special moment for our relationship with Tesco, as it builds upon our successful partnership which started three years ago when Aber Falls award-winning gin portfolio was first launched into Tesco stores, across Wales.  We are incredibly proud to be able to share this wonderful whisky with more people, with this latest release.“

The perfect serve:

Aber Falls has also partnered with Welsh bartender, Alex Mills, to create a signature serve: an Old Fashioned, but with a Welsh twist.

Loosely based on the flavours of a Bara Brith – a spiced tea cake common in North Wales – the beverage will consist of ingredients from the four corners of Wales. With honey from Nature’s Little Helpers in Cardiff, Black Welsh tea from Tea Traders in Carmarthen, Coffee bitters from Dyfi Coffee in Machynlleth and of course, the Single Malt from Abergwyngregyn.

Alex’s recipe takes 50ml of Aber Falls whisky, 15ml honey, a pinch of black tea and five drops of coffee bitters. Stir and serve over a block of ice for a delicious take on a traditional favourite.

Aber Falls’ Single Malt Welsh Whisky 2021 release will be available in Tesco stores across Wales, online at AberFallsDistillery.com and via retailers including Master of Malt.
