Aberavon Beach wins 2023 Seaside Award
Aberavon beach has been named as one of country’s best beaches by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy which has awarded it the prestigious Seaside Award for 2023.
The annual Seaside Awards play a vital role in protecting Wales’s precious marine environment and are recognised around the world as a symbol of quality and good beach management.
From popular resorts to hidden gems, all award-winning beaches must meet and maintain the highest environmental and safety standards.
Announcing the 2023 awards on Tuesday, May 16th, Keep Wales Tidy Chief Executive Owen Derbyshire said: “Some of the world’s best beaches are on our doorstep. These awards are a tribute to the hard work and dedication of those who strive to maintain and enhance the natural splendour of our coastline.
“However, with the privilege of enjoying these breathtaking landscapes comes the responsibility to protect and preserve them. Let us all pledge to do our part by respecting the environment and keeping our beaches clean and litter-free.
“Together, we can ensure that future generations have the opportunity to experience the wonder of Wales’s coast.”
Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Wellbeing, Cllr Jeremy Hurley, said: “We can once again proudly fly the Seaside Award flag which assures good standards of safety and cleanliness for visitors to Aberavon Beach.
“We are tremendously proud of the hard work the council staff and local volunteer groups put in to help meet these standards. The popularity of Aberavon Beach and its promenade as a place to visit by both local people and visitors continues to grow year on year.”
David Rees MS added: Aberavon Beach has always been one of our town’s jewels, and it is wonderful news that it has been recognised through this award. It is a great place to take the family and I would encourage everyone to come and enjoy our fantastic beachfront.
