The team from Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Swansea partied in style at Swansea Arena to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the site’s opening, alongside a celebration of the successes of the team over the last year. This is the first year the Amazon team has been able to host a party since 2020.

The team was treated to the celebration after another great year at the fulfilment centre in Swansea. At the party, guests enjoyed entertainment and dancing.

The 832,000 sq ft fulfilment centre in Swansea Bay opened its doors in 2007, creating jobs for up to 1,700 people in the local area.

Emma Varnals, who has worked at the Swansea fulfilment centre since it opened, said:

“I started out working for Amazon in London back in 2002, and moved to the Swansea site when it opened in 2007, alongside my partner Darren. We’re both still here today and have enjoyed every minute. It’s been nice to get involved with the community on many occasions over the years, too. I’m pleased to be celebrating this 15-year milestone with the team.”

Amazon in Swansea General Manager, Christopher Law, added:

“The annual team party is one of the highlights of the year at Amazon in Swansea, so it was great to finally celebrate in style again. The event gives us the opportunity to say a big thank you to our team for all their efforts over the previous 12 months, with this year’s celebration also marking the milestone of 15 years in Swansea with our brilliant team. In 2023, we are excited to continue delivering smiles to our customers in Swansea and beyond.”

Alex Bennett, an employee at Amazon in Swansea who attended the party, added:

“Another year of success at Amazon in Swansea has been accomplished. We had a fantastic night celebrating all our achievements – throughout 2022 and over the last 15 years – alongside colleagues and friends.”

Since opening its doors in 2007, the Amazon fulfilment centre in Swansea has made many donations to charities across Swansea, including Ty Hafan, EMMAUS South Wales and Maggie’s Cancer Centre.

The donations were made as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK.

Amazon provides competitive pay, comprehensive benefits and a modern, safe and engaging work environment for its employees. Pay starts between £11 and £12 per hour depending on location, and Amazon employees can also take advantage of Amazon’s pioneering Career Choice programme, which pre-pays 95% of tuition for courses in high-demand fields, up to £8,000 over four years, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon.

Amazon also provides opportunities to improve existing skills or learn new ones through internal career progression opportunities such as cross-training, transferring to a different department and promotion into a managerial role.
