Barry Island 10k now sold out!
The ABP Barry Island 10K sold-out moments before registrations closed for the second edition of the summertime race.
A total of 3,300 runners will run the Island on Sunday 4 August after the ABP Barry Island 10K became the third event in the Healthspan Wales 10K Series to sell-out. The final leg of the four race campaign followed suit after the Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run and Healthspan Porthcawl 10K filled to capacity.
Entries spiked after the success of the inaugural Porthcawl event and sold-out minutes before the deadline for participants to sign-up passed. Runners of all abilities will take in all the highlights of the seaside hotspot on the scenic but challenging course devised by double olympic marathoner Steve Brace.
Great Britain endurance star Dewi Griffiths led the way through Whitmore Bay, the Knap, Romilly Park and Watch House Bay before taking the tape to take the inaugural title last year and then thousands of runners followed to complete their own personal challenges.
Race Director Steve Brace said:
“To sell-out for a second year really shows the appetite for running in Barry and the surrounding region. Last year was a real festival of running but this year we are hoping to make the event bigger and better at one of South Wales’ most iconic locations.
“The Healthspan Wales 10K Series has proved a hit with the elite athletes vying for the title and the amateur runners who saved money by signing up to more than one event when the series passes went on sale.
“We can’t wait to see the Promenade packed with runners and supporters on August 4th. Don’t forget your suncream!”
A host of children’s activities including a Family Fun Run and Toddler Dash take place along the promenade – giving budding athletes and families a chance to get in on the action. There is still time to get the family involved by heading over to https://barryisland10k.co.uk/fun-for-the-family/ and signing up.
