Barry Island 10K Set to Return in June 2025 – With New Charity Partner

The much-loved Barry Island 10K is making a triumphant return on Sunday, 15 June 2025, bringing thousands of runners back to the scenic seaside town. The event, organised by Run 4 Wales, promises a vibrant atmosphere and a day of thrilling races, including a Family Fun Run, a Toddler Dash, and the Future Challengers mile races.
A Community Celebration with a Charitable Cause
This year’s race introduces a new partnership with Cancer Research Wales as the lead charity. Runners can join the charity team for a reduced entry fee of £10 by pledging to raise £120, supporting pioneering cancer research across Wales.
Matt Newman, Chief Executive at Run 4 Wales, expressed enthusiasm about the race’s return:
“We’re thrilled to bring back the Barry Island 10K, and this year’s event is set to be bigger and better than ever. With the recent spotlight on Barry Island from the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special, we look forward to welcoming runners from across the UK and beyond, from Billericay to Barry!”
Cancer Research Wales CEO, Adam Fletcher, emphasized the importance of the partnership:
“We are delighted to be the lead charity for the Barry Island 10K. As the only charity fully dedicated to funding cancer research in Wales, this event offers a fantastic opportunity for supporters to contribute to groundbreaking discoveries that will benefit people across the country.”
Scenic Route and Spectator Activities
Renowned for its stunning course, the race takes runners through some of Barry Island’s most iconic locations, including Whitmore Bay, Romilly Park, Watchtower Bay, Friars Point, and The Knap. Spectators will also have plenty to enjoy, with an event village along the promenade featuring entertainment, games, and access to the town’s beloved cafes, eateries, and arcades, including Nessa’s Slots and Marco’s Café.
Vale of Glamorgan Council Leader, Cllr Lis Burnett, highlighted the event’s impact on the local community:
“We are delighted to see the Barry Island 10K return. This event not only offers a stunning backdrop for runners but also plays a key role in promoting Barry Island as a premier destination for large-scale events.”
