Braving the Shave for Parkinson’s UK: Gareth and Supporters Going Bald for Charity

Gareth Evans and a team of supporters will be going bald for a good cause on May 4.

Gareth, from Whitchurch, Cardiff, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s seven years ago, is taking on a head shave and a round of  waxing to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.

The event will take place at the Maltsters Arms, Whitchurch, as part of a full day of fun and fundraising. Alongside the big shave, there will be a BBQ, face painting, and a raffle, making it a full day out for all the family.

Parkinson’s is the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world, and while there is currently no cure, every penny raised will go towards groundbreaking research, support services, and better treatments for those living with the condition.

Gareth has been a tireless fundraiser, having previously taken part in rugby games, marathons, weight-loss challenges, quizzes, and charity walks. However, as his condition progresses and physical challenges become tougher, he has found a new way to raise money—by parting ways with his hair.

Gareth said: “I’ve tackled all sorts of challenges over the years, but as my Parkinson’s progresses (and with my dodgy knees and arthritis setting in), I know I can’t take on the athletic challenges anymore. But I can still have a laugh—and what better way than getting my head shaved for a great cause?”

Gareth, who is married to Louise, has set up a Just Giving page for people to support his fund-raiser: https://tinyurl.com/4v7jdbub
