Bridgend Coronavirus Support Group ‘overwhelmed’ by generous nightwear donations for Princess of Wales Hospital

Bridgend Coronavirus support group, set up by local campaigner Sarah Murphy to support the Bridgend community through the COVID-19 crisis, has received an overwhelming response after member Natasha Rees notified the group that the Princess of Wales hospital was in need of nightwear and dressing gowns for adult patients.

Kind-hearted Bridgenders responded to the appeal with typical generosity.  Sarah said:

“This is a brilliant example of our caring community in action and I’d like to thank every single person who responded to the nightwear appeal.

“Throughout the pandemic, our support group of 11.5k members has shown us the best of humanity across our community, with members sharing their stories, volunteering their time and responding to every request for support in abundance.

Sarah explained how the community had got behind this latest appeal:

“Only last Friday, Natasha Rees posted on the group asking if people have night clothes and the response has been typically overwhelming! As well as massive donations from the public, Councillor Jane Gebbie contacted the Unison CTM Health Branch who leapt into action and were happy to help. Tesco on Brewery Lane also donated £100 worth of new clothes, with the helpful Lisa and Carl going out of their way to help us pick them, as well as Newcastle Higher Community Council donating £150 worth of nightwear, and the local Marks and Spencer.

“Heidi from BAVO arranged and co-ordinated safe, socially distanced collections by a small team of volunteers and it was an absolute delight to deliver this package with Natasha safely to the Hospital today.

“Yet again, the Bridgend community has left me humbled and overwhelmed and I know the hospital and patients will be incredibly grateful.  A massive thank you on their behalf.”
