The contract for the demolition of properties on Hafodyrynys Hill (Woodside Terrace) has now been awarded to Walters, who are aiming to commence work on site on the 20th September.

The scheme will initially involve preparatory works, before actual demolition of the buildings begin. The current schedule indicates that demolition works will commence in the middle of October (exact dates to be confirmed).

In advance of Walters starting on site, Wales and West Utilities (WWU) will be disconnecting the gas supply to the properties.  As the gas pipe is located in the footway, WWU will need to introduce a lane closure on Hafodyrynys Hill, controlled by traffic lights on the A472, to ensure the safety of their workers and to maintain a continuous footway link for pedestrians.

The traffic lights will be operational between the hours of 9:30am and 15:00pm.  These works are currently planned to last two weeks commencing Monday 13th September.

We anticipate traffic congestion at the site, so motorists are urged to use alternative routes if possible. Further traffic restrictions will be required over the duration of the contract and these will be announced in due course. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by these unavoidable works.

Letters will be distributed to residents living opposite the works, providing details of the scheme and relevant contact details for the agencies involved.

The council will issue further updates over the coming weeks to keep the public informed.
