Cardiff Laundry Service Tackles Carbon Footprint by Tree Planting and Sustainable Initiatives

Cardiff Laundry Service

Cardiff Laundry Service, Wash Cycle, is focused on changing the laundry industry for the better through their green initiatives whilst greatly improving accessibility for the local community. They are lowering their carbon footprint and environmental impact at source, whilst simultaneously making it far easier for anyone to organise for their laundry to be taken care of without breaking the bank.

The laundry industry, as it is, is wasteful and inefficient. Many consumers are unaware of the impact their detergent choices may have on the environment, nor will they know that many detergents are as effective at 30 degrees as they are at 40 degrees.

On average, some 19 billion cubic meters of water is used annually just from washing – with 62million Tonnes of CO² emitted from washing machines – and 60% of which is caused from heating the water to 40 degrees.(Nationalgeographic.com)

Wash Cycle, a Cardiff delivery laundry service, has taken positive steps to tackle this though a combination of eco-friendly strategies, including sourcing effective detergents, highly efficient machines and reducing wash temperatures.  This is helping the business to reduce it’s carbon footprint at source. They’ve also backed this up with service initiatives which actively encourage their clients to use reusable bags through discounts – which has been so effective, a box of just 200 strong carrier bags has lasted them a year.

Taking orders through their streamlined and easy-to-use website or app, www.washcycle.co.uk, the delivery laundry service then goes one step further by planting 1 tree for every order and funding carbon prevention schemes through a partnership with Ecologi. So far, they’ve funded 10,491 trees and the prevention of 76.76 Tonnes of CO² – at the time of writing. This partnership can be tracked at https://ecologi.com/washcycleltd to enable full transparency of the work they are doing.

While the laundry industry remains an industry with a high carbon footprint, Wash Cycle are truly taking steps towards achieving net zero and are making changes wherever possible to create a truly sustainable laundry service.

Jonathan Day, Founder of Wash Cycle explains:

“It has always been my firm belief that any new business should make it a core goal that they will leave the world, or at least their industry, in a better state than they found it. Of course, it is still crucial to deliver a high quality service or product and to provide good customer service while doing so.  Advances in tech and science are happening all the time, and now that we know and understand the extent of the damage which we have been doing to our planet, we simply have to start being more pro-active in our response and harnessing technology and biodegradeable solutions as they become available.

“It’s easy to say you’re doing something, or greenwashing, but the benefits to be gained from striving for true sustainability are undeniable. That’s why Wash Cycle are Green Pledge Members and why I have signed the laundry service up to the Million Tree Pledge, aiming to fund 1million trees in the next 10 years.”
