Cardiff based small business, Severn Bay Corporate Solutions increased their revenue by £100k in six months

An period of rapid growth is good news for a successful Cardiff commercial insurance broker, as well as the sales growth specialist who has worked with him for almost a year.

Nigel Adams, the Director of Insurance Services at Severn Bay, has years of experience in the insurance sector, and since launching Severn Bay in 2010, he had grown the business to five employees and a well-established customer base, thanks to a strategy of working for a fee rather than a commission which sets Severn Bay apart from its competition.

Thanks to a meeting at Reliance BNI(Cardiff), Nigel and Colin McQueen, Sales Growth Specialist at SME Skills Academy started working together from July, 2021.  Nigel engaged Colin because he wanted to grow both the revenue and the capital value of his business. Whilst he already had plenty of experience in sales, he needed to find a way to accelerate his business growth – and Colin proved to be the solution.

The eureka moment came after the 4th sales strategy session, when he realised the catalyst for a dynamic change: Nigel needed to realign his team to enable him to be the lead and the vision for growth. After agreeing a Sales Strategy Activity plan, regular weekly follow up calls from Colin helped Nigel maintain focus and delivery of the Activity Plan, ensuring the plan delivered the desired results.

Nigel was already networking in London and through BNI, but he hadn’t fully utilised LinkedIn to educate and engage prospects. He already had the knowledge and experience, but until that point, he hadn’t utilised it to amplify his own network. Under Colin’s guidance, Nigel was able to harness his contacts better, and also used LinkedIn to engage the key person in the business he targeted, so built on relationships and aimed for quality over the quantity of leads.

6 months later, Nigel and Severn Bay haven’t looked back and as a result of completing the 6-months Hypergrowth Program with SME Skills Academy, their revenue increased by over £100k, proving that weekly accountability and focusing on opportunities can deliver great results, even for small businesses.
