Cardiff development takes home Lovell National Health and Safety Award

Leading partnerships developer Lovell recently held its National Health and Safety Awards, where the St Mellons Community Living Project in Cardiff took home the Gold.
The Lovell National Health and Safety Awards are an annual event held by the company to reflect its commitment to high health and safety standards, and to demonstrate the level of engagement it has with contractors on each development.
One site from each of Lovell’s 12 regions was selected as the best performing site of 2024, with representatives from each site invited to the ceremony. During the ceremony, the top three sites were chosen from the 12 nominees, with the St Mellons development winning the Gold Award.
The St Mellons Community Living Project was recognised as the team on site carried out a series of exceptional health and safety initiatives and innovative strategies. These strategies include procuring a device that collects metal fragments on site, reducing the risk of vehicle punctures which is a unique and thoughtful addition to site safety, new measures to ensure safe site access and public protection, smart lifting solutions, a robust fire safe system, environmentally friendly transport systems and more.
This recognition not only highlights the exceptional work carried out at St Mellons but also sets a benchmark for future developments, raising the overall standards within the Lovell team.
James Duffett, regional managing director at Lovell, said: “The Lovell National Health and Safety Awards are a display of our commitment to keeping everyone safe on site, as well as an incentive for all of our sites to continue to find innovative ways to continuously improve standards in this area.
“A huge congratulations to the St Mellons team for their outstanding work, we look forward to seeing how much more Lovell can achieve in future awards.”
The St Mellons Community Living Project is being built by Lovell for Cardiff Council and will provide high-quality, independent living accommodation for older people. The £17.2m development will deliver a total of 60 one and two-bedroom, self-contained apartments for social rent and a wide range of communal facilities.
