Cardiff Met Partners with Welsh Athletics to Expand Sports Injury Clinic Provision

Cardiff Metropolitan University and Welsh Athletics have joined forces to enhance the provision of sports injury support, bringing together their expertise to benefit the wider community, staff and students. This collaboration sees the integration of Cardiff Met’s existing Sports Injury Clinic with the newly established Welsh Athletics Sports Injury Clinic, ensuring accessible, high-quality rehabilitation services for athletes of all levels.
The partnership strengthens Cardiff Met’s commitment to supporting and integrating students within professional sporting environments. As part of the initiative, MSc Sports Rehabilitation students will gain hands-on experience working with a National Governing Body, further embedding their learning through direct engagement with Welsh Athletics events and athlete support.
Adam Rattenberry, Lead Performance Physiotherapist & Athlete Services Manager, shared:
“We are delighted to launch our Welsh Athletics Sports Injury Clinic in partnership with Cardiff Met, offering the athletics community the same high-quality injury assessment and management support as our top-class athletes. With a wide range of appointment types available, from 1:1 physiotherapy and soft tissue appointments to student-led assessments and rehabilitation, there is something to suit everyone.
“With over 30 years of combined experience in elite and high-level sport, our practitioners offer the very best in injury assessment and rehabilitation. We are looking forward to combining this with developing the next generation of sports rehabilitators through our student-led clinics.”
Dr Rob Meyers, Principal Lead for Undergraduate Programmes in Sport at Cardiff Metropolitan University, highlighted the significant benefits this partnership brings to students: “This collaboration with Welsh Athletics provides an invaluable opportunity for our students to gain real-world experience in a professional sporting environment. Being able to work closely with Welsh Athletics practitioners both within the clinic and events as part of their learning is a fantastic addition to their academic and professional development. We are proud to partner with Welsh Athletics to ensure our students graduate with the skills and confidence needed to excel in the field of sports rehabilitation.”
This partnership not only enhances the practical learning opportunities for Cardiff Met students but also strengthens Cardiff Met Sport’s connection with on-campus partners and endorsed programmes, reinforcing its reputation as a leading institution for sports education and applied practice.
